Me and Noah

When the Cleft goes undetected…

From my experience, we were told about the cleft at the 20 week ultrasound. However not all parents find out about the cleft before birth. Some babies are born with a cleft of the hard or soft palate only, which isn’t always easy to see on ultrasound. Other babies may be situated in such a way that they hide the cleft lip with their arms or hands. I knew about Noah’s cleft and even at birth I admit I was a little shocked when I saw the cleft for real. I can only imagine what parents feel like who don’t know, who find out at birth and have no words for what they are now facing. If you're in that position, take a deep breath…things will work out.
